Beginner Classes
Tommy"G"'s Manhattan Stained Glass is proud to offer the very best in the education
of stained glass. The approach to our classes is that of an apprenticeship, where you
learn as one would in an industry setting.
Many other programs focus on small, simple projects such as suncatchers. While we
have nothing against suncatchers, students should leave a beginner stained glass
course with the confidence and ability to move onto larger, more challenging projects
Many people become very frustrated when approaching their first few projects.
This is because there are bad habbits that may be acquired unknowingly when taught
incorrectly.
The focus of Tommy "G"'s beginner course is cutting glass, the most difficult
obstacle in learning the craft. Students will be taught to use the materials cost
effectively, rather than wasting glass due to incorrect methods of cutting.
Other aspects of the course include:
- a brief history of stained glass
- safety
- tool maintenance
- grozing and grinding
- copper foiling
- soldering techniques
- patina
- framing
